When good/service differentiation is used, there will be greater focus on reliability, efficiency of delivery and uniformity of quality. As Fruity Fro-Yo grew, larger volumes of inventory needed to be purchased. While the business beforehand had a variety of suppliers, it underwent supplier rationalisation to reduce the number of suppliers. This helped to support Fruity Fro-Yo’s cost leadership strategic role of operations, as with few suppliers more bulk purchases could be made leading to cost reductions. As Apple has a focus on good/service differentiation, inputs need to be of good quality, production levels need to be flexible, lead times need to be quicker than competitors, and costs still need to be competitive with other leading brands. Apple has achieved this through global sourcing, e-commerce and logistics. Apple obtains parts from all around the world, then the final assembly is completed in China.
